OUR STORY

In 1983, the Montemurro grocery store was built on the site of Promenades du Cuivre, 100 rue du Terminus Ouest. The grocery store had already been well established in Rouyn-Noranda since 1927, when it was located at 27 rue du Terminus Ouest (the building that now houses the Rouyn-Noranda archive center).

In 1984, the Promenades du Cuivre project came to fruition, with the addition of a Canadian Tire, Peoples and over 45 stores, including restaurants. The project cost around $18,000,000.00 and created almost 250 jobs, right in the heart of the sister cities.

The architects, Boulianne and Bart, created Les Promenades du Cuivre with an eye to modernization and aesthetics – an airy, light-filled mall, as the editorials of the day put it.

In 1988, Les Promenades du Cuivre was renovated to add a parking lot at the corner of rue Dallaire and rue du Terminus and expanded on the bank side to create a large underground parking lot.
